This week on Curious Orange …
It’s the NL-NY 400 party!
What’s that mean?
It means that 400 years ago, Henry Hudson landed a Dutch ship on the shores of what is now New York City… and New Amsterdam was born! Now, 400 years later, we are celebrating the little bits of Dutchness that have lingered on in New York.
And we’re not the only ones celebrating this history… students in the state of New York have been working hard researching and writing essays about the Dutch contribution to the place they call home, all for the "Legacies of New Netherland, A New York State Quadricentennial Essay Contest". (how’s that for a mouthful?!). This week we’ll hear from a couple of the organizers as well as the three winning students - Keenan Kossman, Callie Kanim, and Eva Fan.
You can listen to the whole show here.
And check back later in the week to see the smiling faces of the winners and read what they actually had to say about the NL-NY connection.
