Amsterdam child sex abuse victims demand damages

On Monday, Attorney Richard Korver asked the court in Amsterdam for damage payments for his clients.

Korver represents the families of 47 children who were sexually abused by Robert Mikelsons, a daycare worker and babysitter for hire, who has confessed to sexually assaulting at least 83 children. Mikelsons is only on trial for abusing 67 children, because some of the families involved decided to withdraw from the case to avoid potential publicity.

According to Korver, it is “very likely” that his clients have suffered well over a million euros in immaterial damages as a result of the abuse. He has asked the court for 8000 euros per victim for violating their personal integrity, 8000 euros per victim for violating their privacy and 8000 euros per family for violating family life.
