Dutch candidate Joan Franka has not made it to Saturday’s final of the Eurovision Song Contest in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan.

The 22 year old from Rotterdam, who sang her own composition You and Me - failed to gather enough votes for a spot in the competition’s final.

Dressed in a huge native American war bonnet, Joan competed against acts from 17 European countries. Lithuania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Serbia, Ukraine, Sweden, Macedonia, Norway, Estonia, Malta and Turkey won enough votes from the audience and a jury of experts to make it to the finals.

This is the eighth time in a row that the Netherlands has failed to make it past the semi-finals.

The last time the Netherlands made it to the finals was in 2004 when the current system of semi finals was introduced. Then Dutch candidate Re-Union and their song Without You ended up in 20th place.
