Cardinal Eijk of the Netherlands has unveiled a monument for sexually abused children. The stained glass object is located in front of a church in the eastern city of Hengelo. It depicts the Virgin Mary protecting two children at play.

The monument was made by Frans Houben, an artist who himself was sexually abused by priests as a child. He says that makes the work of art quite special, but he admits he faced opposition from other sex abuse victims who feel the time is not yet ripe for such a monument.

The monument is not only for children who were abused by priests, but for all children who have been sexually abused.
