Amsterdam’s annual Gay Pride festival bursts into extravagant life tomorrow. A week of events ranging from religious services to street parties will climax next Saturday with the always spectacular boat parade along the city’s canals.

Visitors who come to the Dutch capital by car will notice a symbolic difference. The parking metres in areas where most events are taking place will issue pink receipts with the Festival’s “We Are Proud” logo printed on the back.

Jørgen Weekers, director of Cition, the company responsible for administering Amsterdam’s parking meters, said ”by doing this, we want to emphasise how much value we attach to a work and living environment where everyone respects each other”.

Amsterdam Gay Pride runs from July 28 till August 5.
