The travel guidebook publisher Lonely Planet has selected Surinam, the South American country once a Dutch colony, as one of next year’s ten best travel destinations.
Other countries in the Best in Travel guidebook for 2010 ‘top ten’ include Nepal, El Salvador, Germany, Greece, the United States, New Zealand and Malaysia.

The book also presents a list of places well worth a visit. Among them are the French Alsace region, the Indonesian island of Bali and the Indian state of Goa. Recommended cities include Abu Dhabi, Cork in Ireland, Istanbul and Sarajevo.

The Best in Travel guidebook is now in its fifth edition and is designed to highlight places and experiences that “people really should consider.”
