This article is part of the RNW archive. RNW is the former Radio Netherlands Worldwide or Wereldomroep, which was founded as the Dutch international public broadcaster in 1947. In 2011, the Dutch government decided to cut funding and shift RNW from the ministry of Education, Culture and Science to the ministry of Foreign Affairs. This is a missed opportunity.  “Men and fathers who engage in caretaking are an important role model for children," says Gary Barker, director of Promundo, a Brazilian-based organisation which promotes better gender relations. "They also have a better relationship with their wives.”

In “What about men”, an event organised by Rutgers WPF, 170 people gathered at the Olympic Stadium in Amsterdam to discuss men, masculine roles, and what happens when men get involved at home.
