The first ever ‘Twitter wedding’ has been held in the Dutch town of Zeist, near Utrecht.

Earlier this year René Hoksbergen tweeted his proposal to Jannetta Dorsman on Twitter. The microblogging website went on to organise and sponsor the couple’s ‘twedding’, which was held today at Zeist’s historic ’t Kerckebosch Castle, now a hotel.

Apart from the dozens of real life guests, hundreds of virtual guests also followed the ceremony. Anyone active on Twitter was welcome either to attend the wedding in person or watch live on the internet.
